(un)convention BROOKLYN Panelist: H&H Weddings

When we started planning (un)convention Brooklyn, we reached out to all our industry heroes to see if any of them would be willing to join us at our weird hybrid workshop + networking + cocktail party + brainstorming session.

This week, we're excited to announce that some of them said yes! We are going to pack a ridiculous amount of learning, laughing, and sass into our 5-hour event December 2. Here's more info about one of our favorites, Kate Schaefer of H&H Weddings

Company: H&H Weddings

Owner: Kate Schaefer

City: NYC (though, the blog is worldwide)

Tell us more about your Hustle: H&H Weddings is an LGBTQ+ wedding blog that is dedicated to providing couples with the resources they need to plan their weddings/engagements/elopements. Through workshops, Kate and her fellow equality-minded industry pros are educating the wedding industry about being inclusive. Additionally, Kate is a brand liaison/brand partner for companies who want to connect with the LGBTQ+ community.

How are you a game-changer in the wedding industry? H&H Weddings is really the only blog that is LGBTQ+ specific with the level of aesthetics that we have. Most LGBTQ+ wedding blogs feature lots of rainbows and plenty of terrible quality photos. We really wanted to set the bar high and show that LGBTQ+ couples can have beautifully curated, personal events.

What inspires you to do weddings differently? My general disdain for stereotypes, poor design, & heteronormative ideals. Oh, and rainbows.

What is one of your favorite creative, unique projects you’ve worked on? I planned a photoshoot, called Dapper Hour, about a year ago. The idea was that we would showcase holiday inspiration with a variety of models and gender identities. To date, that shoot has gotten me more traction than almost anything I’ve done.

What are three ingredients for a perfect day at your company? 1. Real clothes (not pjs) 2. beer 3. Seeing someone break the mold in the wedding world!

If you were in charge, what would the next big wedding trend be? No more white dresses!!!

What are you most looking forward to at {un}convention? The free booze. And connecting with likeminded industry pros! It can seem like the wedding industry is dominated by blogs that promote this ideal where brides have to be these ethereal waifs with Rapunzel’s hair, perfect manicures, 5 carat diamonds & 5 inch heels.
