Card for the Month: # 3 Extinction (Yiddish: OYS-shtarb)

From the Moon Angels / Malakh Halevanah Cards, a set of divination cards based on the cycle of the moon to help guide your days and nights.

In Judaism feelings are considered angels, so when you have a feeling it's an angel visiting you. Rebekah Erev, the creator of the deck has embraced this non-patriarchial notion of feelings being positive gifts. The cards offer a chance to connect with the cycle of the moon and one’s own intuition which can serve as a guide through emotional states. This deck is as much an oracle deck as an art deck: beautifully designed, locally printed and includes original gouache paintings on each card.

This time of year the natural world is going through her biggest time of letting go. The leaves falling to the ground, dead, are in complete symbiosis with the cycle of life. Their death is necessary for the trees to grow again. We as humans watch the leaves fall in tons; we essentially watch the earth fall from the sky. In witnessing the heavens fall, the dying leaves become our archetype for the connection between heaven and earth. The leaves aren’t afraid to die because they know their death is a part of their life. What would it be like to have a faith like that? To believe that in the letting go of an object, a habit, an emotion, there is power that gives us life.

When we commit to someone else there's an amount of letting go we have to do to stay present to what is. We could trail off into 'what if's. What if she ends up leaving me? What if they don't do what they say? What if we aren't compatible after all? This kind of thinking can leave us feeling bananas. But what if we let go and let our person be themselves and had faith in the relationship we built? What if instead of fretting about the disintegration of the relationship we let our worries go extinct and became like the leaf: free and along for the ride.
