What is J.Olson Weddings' mission?
Let's make something memorable together.
What is J.Olson Weddings' Origin Story?
I started my professional photographic career in 2009 as a photojournalist for music based publications, I have photographed over 200 artists in concert. In 2011, I began shooting weddings alongside photographers and friends, where my background in photojournalism and environmental portraiture has trained me to capture weddings in a way that conveys a narrative story. In 2015 I graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with a BFA in Photography and Minor in Art History. Soon after I began my pursing wedding photography as a career.
What is one of your favorite projects you've ever worked on?
When I was a freshman in college, I started a project where I photographed men and their dogs titled "Of Mutts and Men". The project marked my first experiences with film photography, and working on the project was a freeing and exciting endeavor. The project taught me how to comfortably work with strangers, something I never saw myself doing when I was younger. It was completed in the form of a photo book, and I occasionally revisit my copy of the book to relive the experience through photography.
How are you a "wedding space disrupter”?
Encouraging couples to question everything, and design their own traditions.
What three ingredients are necessary for a great day at J.Olson Weddings?
Coffee, whiskey & aimless conversations.
What are some traits of your ideal client?
Artistic, adventurous, unafraid to forge their own path.
I invite you to do your wedding your way, elope in the greater north, have a punk show with all your friends, party with an entire village. Weddings aren’t meant to be forced into a box, and neither are your photos. Regardless the situation, I will always bring my best, and strive to be the best possible person I can be. To never stop innovating, educating, and to always stand up for others. To create images with intention and heart.
