What is Wood Grain & Lace Events' origin story?
Christine met her very first bride in 2011 when she leased her an apartment in Richmond. The bride needed a temporary home because her fiance was in a medically-induced coma awaiting a heart transplant. So, she uprooted her life in Chicago to move to Richmond and be near her loved one. Christine bonded with her immediately as she had just lost her fiance the month before to brain cancer.
A bond was created and planning a wedding was a good distraction for both of them. A year later, the groom had a new heart and had made a full recovery, ready to greet his new wife as she walked down the aisle at Pippin Hill Farm + Vineyard in Charlottesville. And a career for Christine was born.
36 weddings later in 2014, Christine opened a bridal boutique with her mother called Urban Set Bride and still continues to plan weddings along with her team.
WGL Events now has 4 coordinators and a full team of assistants. As of 2017, we've coordinated 105 events successfully!
What is one of your favorite projects you've ever worked on?
Our favorite events are the ones when our clients truly trust our recommendations. Three of us worked on a wedding in August 2015 in Richmond that was so fun, we forgot we were working. The clients hired every vendor from our list of preferred homies and it was so seamless and organic. It was such an honor to see how much fun the couple and their guests got to have when they had no worries!
How are you a "wedding space disrupter”?
We strive to remove the mindset of a bride-focused, "best day of your life" that tends to be stamped onto weddings. This is a celebration of two people and their loved ones. It's not just a creepy princess party for the bride.
We love equal partnerships and weddings that truly represent who the couple are, what their priorities are and what their future holds together.
