What is Wood Grain & Lace Events' origin story?

Christine met her very first bride in 2011 when she leased her an apartment in Richmond. The bride needed a temporary home because her fiance was in a medically-induced coma awaiting a heart transplant. So, she uprooted her life in Chicago to move to Richmond and be near her loved one. Christine bonded with her immediately as she had just lost her fiance the month before to brain cancer.

A bond was created and planning a wedding was a good distraction for both of them. A year later, the groom had a new heart and had made a full recovery, ready to greet his new wife as she walked down the aisle at Pippin Hill Farm + Vineyard in Charlottesville. And a career for Christine was born.

36 weddings later in 2014, Christine opened a bridal boutique with her mother called Urban Set Bride and still continues to plan weddings along with her team.

WGL Events now has 4 coordinators and a full team of assistants. As of 2017, we've coordinated 105 events successfully!

What is one of your favorite projects you've ever worked on?

Our favorite events are the ones when our clients truly trust our recommendations. Three of us worked on a wedding in August 2015 in Richmond that was so fun, we forgot we were working. The clients hired every vendor from our list of preferred homies and it was so seamless and organic. It was such an honor to see how much fun the couple and their guests got to have when they had no worries!

How are you a "wedding space disrupter”?

We strive to remove the mindset of a bride-focused, "best day of your life" that tends to be stamped onto weddings. This is a celebration of two people and their loved ones. It's not just a creepy princess party for the bride.

We love equal partnerships and weddings that truly represent who the couple are, what their priorities are and what their future holds together.

What three ingredients are necessary for a great day at Wood Grain & Lace Events?

  1. Timely wedding vendors
  2. A well stocked emergency kit
  3. A hot vendor meal with a glass of wine to ease us in to the end of the night clean up

What are some traits of your ideal client?

Trusting, realistic, responsive to emails, and chill.

What Past Clients Have To Say:

"Christine is a professional and a class act who takes the guesswork out of your wedding day. I had a wedding to plan in about six weeks, and while I’m the kind of spreadsheet nerd who enjoys getting all the details together myself, I immediately went to Wood Grain & Lace to see if they’d be available to do my day-of coordinating. Christine was knowledgeable, responsive, and brought all of her experience to bear in terms of what works and what doesn’t work. She provided thoughtful ideas about points I may not have covered yet in my planning, and made sure that we walked through the day-of schedule ahead of time to keep us on the same page. Christine is there to take the stress out of your day with a good old-fashioned dose of preparedness, and she will do that regardless of all the last-minute things that inevitably pop up. Her humor and candor are invaluable when you feel like you’re drowning in a sea of details. As you’re planning an event that looms comically large in your mind, she will remind you to breathe and bring you back down to earth. She will bolster you and encourage you to follow through with the things you and your fiancé / fiancée truly want to remember when you look back on your wedding, outside pressures be damned. On my wedding day she showed up with a smile on her face, completed all those day-of tasks that would have otherwise swallowed up my time, corralled family members and attendants to where they needed to be, and answered any questions so that I didn’t have to. Her assistant, Brandi, also did a great job and added a welcome set of hands and an added sense of calm to the day. Thanks to them I just hung out, concentrated on getting dressed and ready, and walked out totally unstressed. If you’re ready for some organized, knowledgeable, grown-up boss ladies to take care of you and vanquish all the nonsense out of your wedding day, you’re ready for Wood Grain & Lace."
