I can't remember how many times I've woken up to frost decorating our trees but life got in the way of me capturing its beauty. I can't tell you how many times I got in my own way of capturing myself. I was always willing to give myself excuses about being too busy or too tired or too busy mom-ing or the common one: telling myself I hate photos of myself.
This was my second go at the self-portrait challenge by The Queen Photographer's Collective. I definitely appreciated the first round, but I knew it represented a moment I was going through more that who I actually am as person. I love nature. I actually enjoy snow, too. So I was really happy to be playing in it.
But this photo, it makes me so proud to be me. It makes feel like I am breathing freely again and it makes me smile. Even better, it makes me EXCITED. Emotion is a huge part of why I love photography and is what motivates me, so to see that I was able to capture myself in such a way is an amazing feeling.
Honestly, if it wasn't for the QPs I wouldn't have even thought of doing self-portraits. That is the best thing about being a part of their organization. They challenge me to not only think outside the box, but also to do what I do best, which is to capture authentic moments that have emotion as the focus.
