What is J.Olson Weddings' Origin Story?
I started my professional photographic career in 2009 as a photojournalist for music based publications, I have photographed over 200 artists in concert. In 2011, I began shooting weddings alongside photographers and friends, where my background in photojournalism and environmental portraiture has trained me to capture weddings in a way that conveys a narrative story. In 2015 I graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with a BFA in Photography and Minor in Art History. Soon after I began my pursing wedding photography as a career.
What is one of your favorite projects you've ever worked on?
When I was a freshman in college, I started a project where I photographed men and their dogs titled "Of Mutts and Men". The project marked my first experiences with film photography, and working on the project was a freeing and exciting endeavor. The project taught me how to comfortably work with strangers, something I never saw myself doing when I was younger. It was completed in the form of a photo book, and I occasionally revisit my copy of the book to relive the experience through photography.
How are you a "wedding space disrupter”?
Encouraging couples to question everything, and design their own traditions.

What are some traits of your ideal client?
Artistic, adventurous, unafraid to forge their own path.
I invite you to do your wedding your way, elope in the greater north, have a punk show with all your friends, party with an entire village. Weddings aren’t meant to be forced into a box, and neither are your photos. Regardless the situation, I will always bring my best, and strive to be the best possible person I can be. To never stop innovating, educating, and to always stand up for others. To create images with intention and heart.

Both stateside and international elopement packages are booked on an hourly basis. Typically couples will book three hours of coverage, to accommodate for travel time, the ceremony, and a portrait session.
