I was chasing my friends around with a camera well before they were an integral part of our phones. My first camera was an old Minolta that I inherited from my mother on a trip to Niagara Falls. I didn't know a thing about photography then, but I knew that I had irrefutably become the new owner of superhuman powers. It's a sensation I still feel now; the feeling of being able to slow down time, relive moments in history, and magnify a touch between lovers from fifty feet away. I am a photographer because I love people. I love the complexity of existing, of spending a life with your best friend, of defying gravity on a trampoline with your little sister, of communicating a world inside a momentary glance. I believe that joy is easy to find and my greatest achievement is making it more visible to other people through my photography. My civilian alter-ego enjoys roller skating, 90s R&B, and window-shopping downtown while repeatedly stating, "I can totally make that."
How do you approach weddings?
I take a decidedly photo-journalist approach to wedding photography. I blend seamlessly into the room and capture everything from the smallest pair of baby feet in attendance to the moment when your uncle shuts down the dance floor with his 10/10 moves to “Thriller” without you so much as knowing I was even there. I don’t like manipulating the natural joy and beauty that positively surges during a wedding celebration, so I don’t spend a lot of time interrupting or posing. I focus, instead, on polishing my Dad jokes, and making sure you and all of your guests feel safe, seen, and understood when I’m around so that I can document your unique day authentically.
What are some traits of your ideal clients?
I want to work with couples who are thoughtful and creative decision-makers.
I'm especially interested in working with clients who feel slighted and marginalized by the wedding industry (and late capitalism as a whole), who know what does and doesn't serve their well-being. I'm here for loud and out queer energy, fats, femmes, people of color, and anyone who has ever had a hard time seeing themselves reflected in the media or the mirrors in their own home. I see you. You're beautiful.
What are three of your favorite things?
I love rollerskating to 90s RnB, dressing up for themed dance parties, and adding things I've already accomplished to my to-do lists just to check them off.
What Past Clients Have To Say:
"Incredible talent. So much fun to work with. Great personality. Fantastic suggestions on locations and what to do in pictures so you don't look like Chandler Bing in 'Friends' when he forgets how to smile. Emily and I agreed that the most important things for our wedding were the pictures and the food. We searched high and low for the best wedding photographer in Maine. We went through all of the obnoxious 'Top Wedding Vendors of 2017' lists. We saw so many good pictures, but most of the pictures were your run-of-the-mill 'this is what a wedding looks like' pictures. Then we found Robyn's instagram and wow. Pictures of people dancing like there isn't a photographer standing right next to them, people meeting each other, people laughing, guys making a quick stop at a liquor store, all of those little parts of the wedding that you'd probably think back on and say to yourself "I wish we got a picture of that," Robyn captures it all! SHE'S SO GOOD!"
I think the most powerful and singularly transformative gift a human being can give is love — love for a short time, love for a long time, love that comes late in life, or well before birth, love without color, creed, gender, or orientation. I believe that documenting love between all kinds of people of different walks of life creates space for them to feel empowered, and can make the world a more tolerant place. My photography and videography is journalistic, personal, and political.
I travel for free in the contiguous US and cover half of my travel expenses elsewhere!
I love elopements and working with budgets for small or weekday weddings! I believe especially in doing what I can to lend visual representation to marginalized and underrepresented people of all kinds, and recognize the financial barriers to doing so. I am more than happy to work with you to create a custom package that meets you where you are and provides you with the same thorough and soulful documentation I provide all of my clients.
