Out of the Box is a choose-your-own-adventure styled shoot challenge hosted by Catalyst and curated by Color Pop Events. Each team of vendors received a special mystery box filled with fun, beautiful, eclectic shoot supplies to be incorporated into a styled wedding shoot.
Born in Oregon and raised in the Northwest and in the Midwest, I never saw much diversity. As a result, I always saw my skin color and hair as something to be ashamed of — something I should try to hide, cover up, straighten, or make to align more with the American standard of beauty. As I’ve grown up, I’ve slowly started to embrace who I am, kinky hair and all. In a classically modern wedding setting, I wanted to showcase that journey of self discovery with a sleek, elegant, and beautifully natural bride of color.
An incredible team of vendors came together to help propel diversity and acceptance in the wedding industry. Cassandra Kennedy created an effortlessly beautiful look for our bride. Sarah Renard took classic blooms and arranged them with flare, creating a chic bouquet and centerpiece. Elizabeth Dye’s use of linen and an asymmetrical hemline created a stunning and perfectly modern silhouette that paired seamlessly with the beautiful handcrafted Rhodolite Garnet ring and Grey Diamond necklace by The NorthWay Studio. Kelsey Malie’s stunning modern invitation suite was the perfect balance of light and dark tones and tied together our color palette and theme. And the power duo of Elaine and Erin from Power of Love Rentals styled the scene magnificently.
