What is the mission of Corey Torpie Photography?

My goal when photographing weddings is to capture the story of the day. I’m just as interested in showcasing the small subtle moments and quirky personal details, as I am with documenting the big showstoppers. I find beauty in the imperfection and chaos that is a real wedding day. When my clients look back at their photos I want them to have more than just a record of their day, I want them to be reminded of how the day truly felt.

What is Corey Torpie Photography's origin story?

I'd always wanted to be a photographer, and studied photojournalism and political science in college. After college I lived in China and started creating a portfolio of work. Upon returning to NYC I began to get asked to shoot weddings and fell in love with it.

What is one of your favorite projects you've ever worked on?

I currently teach a darkroom photography class through the International Center of Photography at The Point in the Bronx. It started out as a volunteer TA position and it has been one of my most favorite things to do and a great way to get out from behind my desk on the weekdays.

How are you a wedding space disrupter?

I focus on real moments and telling real stories. I approach weddings as the documentation of your communities coming together, something I feel isn't emphasized enough in the wedding industry today.

What three ingredients are necessary for a great day at Corey Torpie Photography?

A bunch of political podcasts queued up for listening, an iced coffee (even in the middle of winter), and time in the morning to make it to the gym first.

What are some traits of your ideal clients and customers?

My ideal clients look at their weddings as a gathering of their communities. They love candid photography and value the beauty in the imperfect.
