Both my husband and I are jazz musicians; he was born in England and I in Serbia, but the path of jazz led us both to New York where we met for the first time at a jazz club. From the moment we started talking to each other we started falling in love. He is the most courageous and kind person I know. After the second time we actually saw each other, I was flying him out to Europe while I was on tour to have our first date. Everything after that moved quickly like a fairy tale.
He proposed to me four years later on a snow covered cliff near a castle in my hometown overlooking the entire city and the river that went around it. It was one of the most emotional moments that I have experienced in my life. We decided to have our wedding four months later. We worked on every little detail together and we planned everything on our own with the help of my family, since we actually did the wedding in Serbia.
Many parts of the wedding were DIY — from the custom designed dress that we bought the fabrics and appliqué for, to the unique wedding invitations, that my parents, who are well known painters, did. They made a different painting for each invite, the flower centerpieces were made with our own two hands, and we designed the cake among many other things. It was a gorgeous experience that we would love to relive every week, as we joke about all the time.
But wedding or no wedding, I have met a male version of me, my soulmate, and we can't wait to spend our life together.
